Substrate Definition in Chemistry and Other Sciences

The definition of substrate depends on the context in which the word is used, particularly in the sciences. Definitions of Substrate Substrate (chemistry): A substrate is the medium in which a chemical reaction takes place or the reagent in a reaction that provides a surface for absorption. For example, in the fermentation of yeast, the substrate the yeast acts upon is sugar to produce carbon dioxide. In biochemistry, an enzyme substrate is the substance the enzyme acts upon. Sometimes the word substrate is also used as a synonym for the reactant, which is the molecule consumed in a chemical reaction. Substrate (biology): In biology, the substrate may be the surface on which an organism grows or is attached. For example, a microbiological medium may be considered a substrate. The substrate may also be the material at the bottom of a habitat, such as gravel at the base of an aquarium. Substrate may also refer to the surface on which an organism moves. Substrate (materials science): In this context, a substrate is a base on which a process occurs. For example, if gold is electroplated over silver, the silver is the substrate. Substrate (geology): In geology, substrate is underlying stratum.

Brief Description Of The Organization - 1691 Words

I. Brief description of the organization When I first began my undergraduate degree, everyone always said to join and experience the many organizations that my university offered. After adapting to the new adjustment of beginning college and moving away from home, I decided to set out and explore in hopes of finding an organization that was bigger than myself. My freshman year of college I joined Sigma Sigma Sigma, one of the largest national sororities on campus. Sigma Sigma Sigma was founded in 1898 in Farmville, Virginia and its Nationals Headquarters is currently located in Woodstock, Virginia. Sigma Sigma Sigma’s mission is to ensure a perpetual bond of friendship, develop strong womanly character and promote high standards of ethical conduct. While working together to enforce this mission for all of its members, each chapter must uphold and follow the rules and regulations provided yearly by National Headquarters. This organization also holds a great value for their foundation that was formed in 1992. This foundation, which was soon named, Robbie Page Memorial (RPM), focuses specifically on supporting child play therapy programs for hospitalized children. II. When I think of modernity I think of change. Modernity is the act of how and why things progress, move forth and new ideas emerge throughout history. It is also the effect of these changes.
